Here are a few Sherwin Williams colors that would look great with maroon:

viva gold
artichoke
red tomato
totally tan (snore)

I think the viva gold or artichoke with red accents would look smashing. Artichoke would probably work best against the yellow kitchen.

As for a theme, the best place to start when deciding is with artwork. Pick something that you like, that works with your colors and then expand from there:

For example, if you love "The Gold Dress" from the link above, then you could create a dramatic spanish/tango look with a boldly patterned area rug, drape scarves over the lamp shades, velvet curtains, etc.

Decorate with colors on the opposite side of the color wheel. You can look at one on sherwin williams web site. I just decorated my living room, I used maroon and a smokey blue. It is striking. Dont use more than one added color or the room will become too busy. Have fun. Go shopping.

Love the first answer to go opposite with a soft blue. I can visualize a smokey grayish-blue.

Paint ONE wall the blue shade, and then use a soft white (not shiny or harsh) on the others. Photo frames in black, all the same style/size unify a clutter of photos. Use black tables/lamp bases, trash cans, too, for more consistency.

Last, use black or blue (matching the wall) for throw pillows or lap blankets. You might select the pillows first, and match the paint to the pillows — which is much easier than painting first!

Remove all other elements that don’t match. (Don’t leave the orange afghan out. If you love it, find a place to store it when the room is tidy – like inside a footstool or ottoman)

our house has an open design with the kitchen, dining area and living room all open to each other. we have the kitchen and dining area a mint green and the living room a burgandy (or maroon). they do seem to complement each other quite well. I have had thoughts of doing stencils of ivy in each of the rooms using the opposite colors (burgandy in the kitchen and dining areas and green in the living room). this would compliment the maroon furniture. Also their is always the option of using slip covers on the furniture and changing the colors all around.

If you really don’t care for the maroon color you could always get inexpensive slip covers for them….Then you could do anything you want.

Colors with Maroon:
white or ivory
rose
banana yellow
mint or leaf green
sky or smoke blue
gray, charcoal
Paint the walls above color, and repeat it in throw pillows, afghans, or quilt; and art work.
Pick a bright [ gold or silver ] for metal accessories.
Repeat the maroon, 2nd color, and gold or silver in small accessories – lamps, vases, ornaments, flowerpots or planters, candles or holders.

maroon goes with a very light cappucino beige. Go on paint websites and look for different colours. Go to http://www.benjaminmoore.com because there are a LOT of colours to choose from, and it’s very good quality.
