How far do you take your dog-owner relationship?

Something that you and your dog do to make other people think your weird.

When I cook something in cooking class I always make sure to bring what I cooked home so Hugo can try it :) When ever we go out, if I order lets say McDonald's I order him a cheeseburger. I have posters of Hugo in my room. When it's his birthday, I bake him a cake, wrap his presents and decorate the living room and when he walks in I yell "surprise!" and sing happy birthday. I always seem to include "Hugo" in most of the conversation that I have (I say "Hugo and I" instead of just me). He is the first one to know all the exciting news about me, then after he knows I can tell my parents. I let him kiss my lips and we share ice cream together. I don't consider him my "dog" but I consider him my brother. I pretty much treat him like a human being in everything that we do.

What about you?
One last thing, when we go to a cafe I want him to sit on a chair and not on the floor.

Well when we go shopping we have to get a bus as the closest town is 30 minutes away and I ALWAYS take her on the bus with me and sometimes I smuggle her in to shops because she’s so small….
We go to car boot sales often and I always take her with me….
I never go anywhere without her if I can help it….

Plus every photo that has been taken of me since I got her has her in it….I never let anybody take a pic of me unless she’s in it too…

It sounds like you really love your dog. He is a lucky guy. Sitting on the chair in the cafe is a little weird, though.

My dogs are my boys and I treat them well but they are still dogs. I would rather feed them the best dog foods, give them the best toys, walk them 3 times a day and cuddle with them in the morning before I get out of bed.

Giving them people food and overly spoiling them can cause health and behavior problems down the road. My childhood dog had a lot of health issues at 8 years old from being overly spoiled like your dog. Patty had to be put down because her expected quality of life was poor.

    Dogs can get cancer too.

    Weird to who?
My housemates thought I was weird for bringing my puppy inside, not hitting her, feeding her inside, feeding her on a healthy BARF diet, taking her to training, spending time with her and grooming her.
Obviously their dog got none of that.

Um some people think its weird that I don’t feed her dog food and go for a raw barf diet.
Some people think its weird I let her sleep on my bed or take her in the car with me everywhere. I have pics of her up at my desk at work. She is also a human to me and I hate it when people are like "shes just a dog" and dont think I should treat her as well as I do – she is still a living animal just like us and should be treated as such.

    Very seriously.

I work from home so am rarely gone. My dog is at my side about 98% of the day as my companion.

I have invested innumerable hours training her from the day I brought her home to ensure she would "earn" her freedoms to be my companion… to be trusted off leash around our farm. And to be well behaved and trusted with people and dogs.

She "helps" with daily chores. She sleeps in my bed, sometimes will nap on my lap. At the moment she is laying under my chair.

As she has developed a sensitive stomach, I give her nothing to eat but the diet she can tolerate. She is on heartworm and flea preventative and up to date on vaccinations. She is brushed regularly, her toenails trimmed.

She is my competitive agility dog. We also go for herding lessons and have just started trialing. We will go to shows on holidays and birthdays. Family just has to get over it.

I prefer to spend my money on the above rather than restaurants or theaters. An old time friend keeps telling me my husband and I should go with him and his wife to SF and "do the city". I tell him "Been there, done that decades ago. Don’t care to, don’t want to. I would rather take my dog for a herding lesson".

For the past several years I have needed to be away from home overnight once or twice a month to take my mother for medical treatments. I miss my dog terribly and can’t wait to get home to be with her again.

Even if I don’t want to, I take her out for walks around the farm so she can do her "dog thing". In the winter when everything here is mud, I will drive her to the park to let her run for exercise and play toys.

She is a dog, and gets to do dog stuff…though she is really spoiled rotten because she is good and has earned it. My husband and I do jokingly refer to her as our youngest child.

Yes, people think I am weird.

    Hugo is one lucky dog!!
